So you've been attempting to eat better and since you'd like to keep all those additions and additives and chemicals off your diet you bought a yogurt maker machine. But your yogurt maker machine does not appear to make yogurt. Here's how to troubleshoot your yogurt maker machine so you can start enjoying the smooth, creamy taste of home made yogurt.

Step 1

Be sure the temperature of the yogurt maker machine is maintained at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is needed to make the profitable cultures of acidophilus and lactobacillus that are most cheerful and prepared to produce yogurt for you.

Step 2

Check the cleanliness of all your preparation and yogurt making implements to troubleshoot for contaminates. Make sure all your pans, spoons and yogurt containers are squeaky clean. This makes sure that no contaminates interfere with the yogurt cultures. You can even desire to take the extra step of boiling utensils.

Step 3

Look at the date on your yogurt starter. If the starter you are using is outmoded, you may no longer have live cultures. Buy new yogurt starter or or, buy some plain yogurt to use as starter. Be sure the yogurt is organic or at least all natural. That way you are not getting all those cool additions in your new batch.

Step 4

Troubleshoot mixing and temperatures. Mix the starter or yogurt with your milk after it cools to lukewarm. You may need to heat your milk to nearly boiling to eliminate any unfriendly contaminates, but you need to let it cool a bit before adding the starter. If you don't, the starter cultures will get cooked and not make yogurt.

Step 5

Keep it quiet. It's best to mix a load of yogurt right before retiring to bed. That way youngsters bounding thru the room will not upset things. In order for the yogurt to set properly, you'll need to keep things fairly quiet, or the vibrations will disturb the process.

Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium and probiotics, but store-bought yogurt is frequently stuffed with sugar, stabilizers, artificial flavors or preservatives and other ingredients you won't want. By making your own yogurt at home you can control sugar content and other ingredients. You may also save a large amount of cash. Making your own yogurt is a snap with an electrical yogurt maker.

Step1

Make sure the cups on your electrical yogurt maker are clean and sterile. To sterilize them, fill them with freshly boiled water and let them stand for 10 mins. Decant the water out.

Step 2

In a medium sized pot, slowly warm 1 quart of milk to 175 degrees F, stirring continually. ( Heating the milk to this temperature kills any bacteria that would struggle with the yogurt culture.)

Step 3

Remove the milk from the heat and allow to cool to 105 degrees F. Continue to stir it occasionally.

Step 4

Add 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with live, active cultures or 1 packet of freeze-dried yogurt starter. Stir well.

Step 5

Pour the cultured milk into the cups of your electrical yogurt maker and plug it in. The electrical yogurt maker will incubate the cultured milk at the right temperature for the bacteria to do its job and the yogurt to form.

Step 6

Remove the cups from your electrical yogurt maker and freeze. ( The yogurt is prepared when it has achieved a thick, semi-solid texture and pulls away from the side of the cup when you tip it.)

Step 7

Keep the fresh yogurt in your fridge for one to two weeks. If you want to use this batch of yogurt to inoculate another batch, do so within 5 to 7 days.
